THE CITY OF 13
dr
pL£ASA 1TONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
March 20, 2012
Operations Services
TITLE: 2012 REGIONAL AND LOCAL WATER SUPPLY UPDATE
SUMMARY
This report provides a summary status of the region's water supply and an assessment of
how the Zone 7 Water Agency (Zone 7) is addressing the long-term water needs of the
Tri-Valley communities. While in 2011 the State experienced above-normal precipitation,
increased reservoir levels, and an above-normal Sierra snowpack, water supply
challenges continue to be prevalent in California and the Tri-Valley area. Further,
continuing State Water Project pumping restrictions have reduced the reliability of Zone
7's water supply. As a result of these continued challenges, including a slow economic
recovery, and current and potentially new state mandated water usage reductions, water
supply reliability concerns will continue to be prevalent in the future. Offsetting these
concerns will take a proactive approach in many areas including water conservation,
wiser water use, and continued cooperation with Zone 7 to develop a reliable and cost-
effective water supply for the Tri-Valley area.
RECOMMENDATION
This report is informational only no recommendation is included.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There are no financial implications to this informational report.
