THE CITY OF 0 5 r <br /> •' "' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASANTONe <br /> August 16, 2011 <br /> Community Development <br /> Engineering Division <br /> TITLE: APPROVE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW BIDS, AND AWARD <br /> CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO VALLEY SLURRY SEAL COMPANY IN <br /> THE AMOUNT OF $414,084 FOR THE ANNUAL SLURRY SEAL OF <br /> VARIOUS CITY STREETS, PROJECT NO. 105004 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> Bids have been received for the subject project and staff is recommending award of the <br /> construction contract to the lowest responsible bidder, Valley Slurry Seal Company in <br /> the amount of $414,084 for the Annual Slurry Seal of Various City Streets project, <br /> CIP No. 105004. Slurry sealing will prolong the service life of the existing pavement by <br /> the application of a thin coat of asphalt/aggregate slurry to the pavement surface. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> 1. Approve plans and specifications for this project. <br /> 2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract for the subject <br /> project to Valley Slurry Seal Company of West Sacramento, California, for a low <br /> bid amount of$414,084.00. <br /> 3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the subject contract. <br /> 4. Authorize the Director of Community Development to approve and execute <br /> contract change order(s) for a contingency amount not-to-exceed $ 41,408 (10% of <br /> the contract) for necessary related subject work. <br /> 5. Authorize the transfer of $205,800 from the Annual Slurry Seal of Various City <br /> Streets project, CIP No. 095004, to provide sufficient funding to complete this <br /> project. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> This project is part of the City's on-going preventive maintenance efforts to prolong the <br /> service life of the existing street pavement. These projects are expected to help control <br /> long-term maintenance costs. Funding for this project was allocated as part of the fiscal <br /> year 2010-11 Capital Improvement Program (CIP) in the amount of $250,000. In <br /> addition, staff is recommending the transfer of $205,800 from last year's Annual Slurry <br /> Seal of Various City Streets, CIP No. 095004, to complete the funding for this project. <br />
