THE CITY OF 02 <br /> - t ° CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASANTONa <br /> July 19, 2011 <br /> Administrative Services <br /> TITLE: ADOPT RESOLUTION TO IMPLEMENT EMPLOYEE <br /> CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS CALPERS PENSION PLAN FOR <br /> PLEASANTON CITY EMPLOYEES ASSOCIATION/AFSCME LOCAL <br /> 955 <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The Memorandum of Understanding with the Pleasanton City Employees <br /> Association/AFSCME Local 955 (PCEA/AFSCME) expired October 31, 2010. <br /> Representatives from the Union and the City met and conferred in good faith to develop <br /> a successor contract covering the period from November 1, 2010 to March 31, 2013. <br /> The tentative agreement reached by both parties was ratified by the Union, and then <br /> approved by the City Council on May 19, 2011. One provision of the tentative <br /> agreement involves employee contributions towards the CaIPERS retirement program. <br /> Employees covered by PCEA/AFSCME will be contributing a total of 2% effective July <br /> 2011, a total of 3% effective December 2011 and a total of 4% effective July 2012. The <br /> July 2011 contribution was implemented on July 9th, the first day of the pay period for <br /> the month. CaIPERS require a resolution adopted by the governing body detailing the <br /> different percentages for their records. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Adopt the resolution to implement employee contribution towards the CaIPERS pension <br /> program for the Pleasanton City Employees Association/AFSCME Local 955. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The cumulative budgetary savings through the end of the contract (March 31, 2013) <br /> associated with the employee contributions is approximately $1.05 million. <br /> Submitted by: Fiscal Review: Approv by: <br /> ulie Yuan iLiVl u Emily Wagner Nelson Fialho <br /> Assistant City Manager/ Director of Finance City Manager <br /> Director of Administrative Services <br />
