THE CITY OF
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT 2
pLEASANTONa
March 16, 2010
Law Department
TITLE: ADOPTION OF RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE LOCAL
TAXPAYER, PUBLIC SAFETY AND TRANSPORTATION PROTECTION
ACT OF 2010
SUMMARY
A coalition of local government, transportation and transit advocates recently filed this
constitutional amendment with the California Attorney General's office for placement on
California's November 2010 statewide ballot. Californians to Protect Local Taxpayer
and Vital Services is a coalition of local governments, transportation advocates,
business, labor, public safety and others with major funding from the League of
California Cities (using non public funds). The Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and
Transportation Protection Act of 2010 would amend various sections of the California
Constitution. Council member Jerry Thorne asked that the Pleasanton City Council
take a position on this measure, and a unanimous City Council directed that this issue
be placed on a future agenda for consideration.
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt the attached resolution in support of the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and
Transportation Protection Act.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
There would be no fiscal impacts associated with adopting the resolution, however, over
the long term the protections in the Proposition will offer greater stability for Pleasanton
revenues and reduce the likelihood of raids by the State to balance its budget.
