10 <br /> THE CITY OF <br /> u <br /> ['L£ ASANTONo CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> August 18, 2009 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVAL OF AN AGREEMENT FOR ARTWORK WITH ARTIST JILL <br /> TURMAN FOR THE DESIGN, FABRICATION, AND INSTALLATION OF <br /> ARTWORK/SIGNAGE FOR THE FIREHOUSE ARTS CENTER <br /> SUMMARY <br /> At its April 2006 meeting, the City Council approved the overall conceptual and <br /> schematic design for the Firehouse Arts Center and, at the same time, staffs <br /> recommendation to treat the entrance signage of the Firehouse Arts Center as a public <br /> art project to be financed separately from the City's Public Art Acquisition Fund. <br /> Alameda Artist Jill Turman was selected to create the signage. She worked with the <br /> Firehouse Arts Center Task Force to develop the design. The design /signage project <br /> has been approved by the Civic Arts Commission and has been reviewed and approved <br /> by the City's Principal Planner as part of the overall design review process for the <br /> facility. All necessary engineering and construction coordination has been reviewed <br /> and facilitated by the project architect and construction manager. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approves the design and purchase of the artwork/signage as <br /> outlined in the attached agreement. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Approve the attached agreement for artwork with Jill Turman for the design and <br /> purchase of artwork/signage for the Firehouse Arts Center. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> Total price for the installed artwork/signage is $41,300. Funds for the artwork/signage <br /> are available from the City's Public Art Acquisition Fund and have already been <br /> approved and allocated by the Council as part of the Operating Budget for FY 2009- <br /> 2010. <br />
