CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 78-25 <br /> <br />RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 77-260, AND APPROVING GUIDELINES IN <br />CONNECTION WITH STREET LIGHTS <br /> <br />WHEREAS, at its meeting of January 24, 1978, the City Council received <br /> and considered a report from the Director of Public Works and <br /> Utilities dated January 9, 1978; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />that report recommended that Resolution No. 77-260 (Approving <br />the Concept of Turning Off 20% of the City's Street Lights) <br />be rescinded and that revised guidelines in connection with <br />street lights be adopted; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. Accepts the report of the Director of Public Works and <br /> Utilities dated January 9, 1978, entitled "Interim Report on <br /> Street Lighting," and rescinds Resolution No. 77-260 of the <br /> City Council. <br /> <br />Section 2. The following guidelines in connection with street light- <br /> ing are hereby adopted: <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />The City Council expresses its intent to convert the <br />City's street light system to high pressure sodium vapor <br />lights; <br /> <br />High pressure sodium vapor street lights shall be installed <br />in all new developments with the developer continuing to <br />pay the qualifying charge; <br /> <br />In all new subdivisions the spacing of lights shall be <br />increased where possible, consistent with safety require- <br />ments, in order to minimize the number of new lights <br />installed; <br /> <br />(4) <br /> <br />(5) <br /> <br />In all new developments the developer shall pay for the <br />pole and the City will assume ownership; <br /> <br />Staff shall develop a more detailed program for conversion <br />to be included in the budget review process for the Fiscal <br />Year 1978-79 Budget; <br /> <br />(6) <br /> <br />Light fixture lumen levels shall be reduced generally <br />consistent with the recommendations contained herein at <br />the time the fixture is changed; and <br /> <br />(7) <br /> <br />Staff shall continue to review the street light system <br />and order the removal of additional street lights where <br />justified. <br /> <br /> <br />
