THE CITY OF O JV( V <br /> CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br /> pL£ASANTON. <br /> October 6, 2009 <br /> Parks and Community Services <br /> TITLE: APPROVAL FOR THE TEMPORARY DOWNTOWN ART EXHIBIT OF <br /> ELEVEN SCULPTURES BY ARTIST SEWARD JOHNSON <br /> SUMMARY <br /> The attached contract and invoice from the Sculpture Foundation calls for the shipment <br /> and delivery of eleven "Man on the Street" style sculptures to be installed by staff in the <br /> environs of Downtown Pleasanton during the months of April, May, and June, 2010. <br /> CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br /> That the City Council approve this temporary art exhibit. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council approve the sculpture project, the proposed <br /> locations for the temporary placement of the sculptures, and the attached contract and <br /> invoice from the Sculpture Foundation. <br /> FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br /> The Sculpture Foundation has agreed to ship 11 sculptures for a temporary art <br /> exhibition in Downtown Pleasanton. The total cost is $18,000 for the collection, made in <br /> two payments of $9,000 each. The pieces are insured against damage during <br /> shipment, installation, and while on exhibit. Money is currently being held in the public <br /> art acquisition fund for this project, which was included in this year's Operations Budget. <br /> Minor incremental costs are anticipated for the Civic Arts and Support Service staff time <br /> required for coordination of the project and installation of the sculptures. <br />
