CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUntY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 81-251 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SB 215 (FOP~N) REGARDING INCREASE IN THE STATE GASOLINE TAX due to major changes in the taxing structure of the last several years, cities and counties have found themselves with reduced funds for improvement of streets, roads, highways and transit facilities; and WHEREAS, the gasoline tax used for such facilities has not been increased during the same period; and WHEREAS, SB 215 has been introduced by Senators Foran, Mills, Johnson, Alquist, Ayala, Mello and O'Keefe and co- sponsored by Senator Speraw and Assemblymen Young, Ingalls, Costa and Torres; and WHEREAS, the Senate bill would increase transportation revenues available to the state, counties and cities by increasing user taxes and fees; and ~{EREAS, the gasoline tax would be increased two cents per gallon from 7~ to 9~; and WHEREAS, the truck weight fees would be increased by 60%; and vehicle registration fees would be increased from $11 to $22 per year and driver's license renewal fees from $3 to $12 per year; and ~IEREAS, it is estimated that the city's local share of increased revenues would be increased by about $6 per capita; and WttEREAS, SB 215 would provide for the shortfall in finances available to the City for preventive maintenance and other City transportation facilities needs. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: The City Council supports SB 215 (Foran). Section 2: Authorizes the Mayor to write to those legislators before whom the Senate bill will be heard in both the Senate and Assembly to urge their support of the measure.
