CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUntY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 81-251 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SB 215 (FOP~N) REGARDING <br />INCREASE IN THE STATE GASOLINE TAX <br /> <br />due to major changes in the taxing structure of the <br />last several years, cities and counties have found <br />themselves with reduced funds for improvement of <br />streets, roads, highways and transit facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the gasoline tax used for such facilities has not been <br /> increased during the same period; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />SB 215 has been introduced by Senators Foran, Mills, <br />Johnson, Alquist, Ayala, Mello and O'Keefe and co- <br />sponsored by Senator Speraw and Assemblymen Young, <br />Ingalls, Costa and Torres; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the Senate bill would increase transportation revenues <br />available to the state, counties and cities by increasing <br />user taxes and fees; and <br /> <br />~{EREAS, the gasoline tax would be increased two cents per gallon <br /> from 7~ to 9~; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the truck weight fees would be increased by 60%; and <br /> <br />vehicle registration fees would be increased from $11 <br />to $22 per year and driver's license renewal fees from <br />$3 to $12 per year; and <br /> <br />~IEREAS, it is estimated that the city's local share of increased <br /> revenues would be increased by about $6 per capita; and <br /> <br />WttEREAS, <br /> <br />SB 215 would provide for the shortfall in finances <br />available to the City for preventive maintenance and <br />other City transportation facilities needs. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council supports SB 215 (Foran). <br /> <br />Section 2: Authorizes the Mayor to write to those legislators <br /> before whom the Senate bill will be heard in both the <br /> Senate and Assembly to urge their support of the measure. <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED JULY 28, 1981 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br /> <br />
