S, on August 7, 1982, at 1:57 a.m., you responded to the scene of a fire at <br /> the Del Prado Apartments, 1398 tfopyard Road; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />being the first public safety officer to arrive at the scene you could <br />see flames rising fifty feet in the air from several apartments that <br />were engulfed; and <br /> <br />Wi~EREAS, you recognized the enon~ity of the situation and the high likelihood for <br /> serious injury and loss of ]~fe and want to work without assistance; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />during the next four minutes you evacuated approxixnately twenty-five <br />apartment units, and in two of those dwellings it was necessary for you <br />to physically force: entry in order to awaken the sleeping tenants; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />yr~u accomplished the evacuation in such an orderly manner that fire <br />fighters were able to turn their full energies toward the fire, in that <br />they were confident that all occupants were accounted for; and <br /> <br />W11EREAS, <br /> <br />you then turned your attention to supervising other police duties at the <br />scene which included su~mnoning an ambulance as a precautionary measure <br />and relocatjng displaced tenants. <br /> <br />NOW, THL%EFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Cc~uncil of the City of Pleasanton <br /> does hereby commend yon for your selflessness in the face of peril, your <br /> dedication to duty, and your fast actions which undoubtedly saved several <br /> lives and prevented serious injuries to the occupants of the burning <br /> building. <br /> <br />ROBERT E~,~ <br /> <br /> <br />
