The age distribution of Pleasanton's population has shifted
toward the older end of the age spectrum. The median age rose
from 26 years to 28 years during the last ten years. This re-
flects to some extent the lower birth rate nation-wide.

TABLE 3

AGE CHARACTERISTICS OF PLEASANTON RESIDENTS:

1970~ 1975~ 198~ (Percentages)

AGE 1970 1975 1980
0 - 4 10.0 8.4 6.2
5 - 9 13.4 11.7 8.9
10 - 14 12.8 13.3 11.9
15 - 19 8.1 9.1 11.1
20 - 24 4.5 4.3 6.1
25 - 34 16.8 19.5 15.5
35 - 44 15.4 16.2 19.5
45 54 9.9 9.1 10.4
55 64 4.8 4.2 5.7
65 and greater 3.9 3.4 4.7
99.6* 99.2* 100

Median Age
1970: 26 years
1975: 27 years
1980: 28 years

*rounding error

Sources:
1970 & 1980 U.
