CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFOP~IA <br /> <br />P~SOLUTION NO. 83-505 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION ADOPTING PRINCIPLES GOVERNING THE <br />INTERIM USE AND THE ACQUISITION OF THE ABANDONED <br />RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY <br /> <br />II~{EREAS, <br /> <br />the City of Pleasanton is in receipt of a letter <br />from the Alameda County Director of Public Works <br />asking for adoption of certain Principles intended <br />to protect the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way <br />as a transportation corridor; and <br /> <br />~EPZAS, <br /> <br />it is hoped that through adoption of these principles <br />by local government that public options for maintaininR <br />a transportation corridor along the Southern Pacific <br />Rail line can be kept open; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton hereby <br /> adopts the following principles Eoverning the interim <br /> use and the acquisition of the abandoned railroad <br /> riEht-of-way: <br /> <br />Ensure the right-of-way is transferred into <br />public ownership. <br /> <br />2. Maintain the right-of-way as a continuous unit. <br /> <br />Protect the integrity of the right-of-way by <br />coordinating the land use policies of the <br />counties and cities through which it passes. <br /> <br />Near term uses to which the right-of-way may be <br />put should not foreclose its development as a <br />transportation facility in the future. <br /> <br />Develop a coordinated Policy to consolidate <br />existing crossing points and to restrict new <br />crosses across the right-of-way. <br /> <br />Develop a coordinated plan among the potential <br />public and Private utilities intendin~ to use <br />the right-of-way. <br /> <br />Maximize all available public and private sources <br />or revenue which may be used to acouire the <br />right-of-way. <br /> <br />Establish acouisition priorities for segments <br />of the right-of-way. <br /> <br /> <br />
