CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFOP~IA P~SOLUTION NO. 83-505 RESOLUTION ADOPTING PRINCIPLES GOVERNING THE INTERIM USE AND THE ACQUISITION OF THE ABANDONED RAILROAD RIGHT-OF-WAY II~{EREAS, the City of Pleasanton is in receipt of a letter from the Alameda County Director of Public Works asking for adoption of certain Principles intended to protect the Southern Pacific Railroad right-of-way as a transportation corridor; and ~EPZAS, it is hoped that through adoption of these principles by local government that public options for maintaininR a transportation corridor along the Southern Pacific Rail line can be kept open; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: The City Council of the City of Pleasanton hereby adopts the following principles Eoverning the interim use and the acquisition of the abandoned railroad riEht-of-way: Ensure the right-of-way is transferred into public ownership. 2. Maintain the right-of-way as a continuous unit. Protect the integrity of the right-of-way by coordinating the land use policies of the counties and cities through which it passes. Near term uses to which the right-of-way may be put should not foreclose its development as a transportation facility in the future. Develop a coordinated Policy to consolidate existing crossing points and to restrict new crosses across the right-of-way. Develop a coordinated plan among the potential public and Private utilities intendin~ to use the right-of-way. Maximize all available public and private sources or revenue which may be used to acouire the right-of-way. Establish acouisition priorities for segments of the right-of-way.
