CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON AL~4EDA COUNTY, CALIFOR~IIA RESOLUTION NO. 83-496 RESOLUTION OF INTENTION TO ESTABLISH THE "DOI'~TOI~I PLEASANTON BUSINESS IMPP~VEMENT DISTRICT" W'HEREAS, the Parking and Business Improvement Area Law of 1979 (Section 36000, et seq. Streets and Highways Code) authorizes cities to establish a parking and business improvement area and impose assessments and charges on businesses within the area, in addition to the general business license tax, if any, in the city, and to use such proceeds for the general promotion and business activities and related purposes; and ~A~{EPdEAS , it appears in the public interest that such an area be established within the City of Pleasanton because a thriving downtown serves: i. to preserve and enhance Pleasanton's heritage, ii. to give character and identity to this comp~unity, iii. to make a wider range of shoDDing, dining and community events available to our citizens, iv. to provide employment for our residents, v. to create oDportunities for new businesses, vi. and increase tax revenues for the Drovision of Dublic services; and WHEREAS, the Pleasanton Downtown Association has petitioned this Council to establish said area; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That this Council hereby declares its intention to establish the "Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District" in the City of Pleasanton pursuant to the provisions of Section 36500 et seq. of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California. Section 2: That the proDosed boundary of said proposed Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District, including the designation of seDarate benefit zones, is as set forth in the mad shown as Exhibit A to the draft ordinance(attached). -1-
