CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 00-008 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING STATE PROPOSITION 12, <br />SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS, CLEAN WATER, CLEAN <br />AIR AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2000 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />state, regional, and local parks serve as recreational, social, and cultural centers for <br />Califomia's communities, providing important venues for youth enrichment and <br />safety, community identity, protection of natural and historic sites, parkland and <br />open space; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />the commitment to state, regional and local parks has dwindled over the last <br />decade, resulting in California communities not keeping pace with the needed <br />~mding for rehabilitation, development and acquisition; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, during this same period of diminished funding, Califomia's citizens have increased <br /> their park visits to state, regional and local parks; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Califomia is known for its natural resources, open space, mountains, rivers, <br /> coastline, and forests that positively impact state and local economies; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />California is largely an urban state with a population that will continue to grow by <br />18 million residents by 2020, thereby placing more pressure on existing parkland <br />and facilities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, California's economy is dependent upon maintaining a high quality of life that <br /> includes attractive and safe public park and recreation facilities and services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the last statewide park bond was passed in 1988; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />Proposition 12, Safe Neighborhood Parks, Clean Water, Clean Air and Coastal <br />Protection Bond Act of 2000 will provide $2.1 billion for state and local park <br />projects to preserve our natural heritage and allow urban areas to expand needed <br />recreation facilities that serve children, youth, seniors, and families; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br /> <br />
