CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 83-79 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION FOR SATURDAY <br />ELECTIONS <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />due to the fact that a large segment of the registered <br />voters are employed, it is difficult for them to <br />vote except early in the morning or late at night, <br />which causes considerable congestion at the polls; <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, for the same reason, it is sometimes difficult to <br /> recruit the necessary election workers; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />schools and other public buildings are available on <br />Saturdays and would provide more convenient and <br />reliable voting locations if elections were held <br />on Saturdays; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, allowing elections to be held on Saturdays would <br /> appear to be a practical solution to the problem; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section <br /> <br />1: Council directs staff to forward a copy of this <br /> resolution to Pleasanton's legislative representatives <br /> and to request their assistance in changing the <br /> state law to allow Saturday elections. <br /> <br />Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED FEBRUARY 22, 1983 BY THE FOLLOWING <br /> <br />VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: <br />NOES: <br />ABSENT: <br />ABSTAIN: <br /> <br />Councilmembers Brandes, Mohr and Wood <br />Councilmember Mercer and Mayor Butler <br />None <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FORM: <br /> <br />Pe'~er D.
