Am dor-L verraore Valley
H stor csl Society

Museum

City of Pleasanton
Fire Department
4444 Railroad Ave.
P.O. Box 520
Pleasanton, CA. 94566-0802

27. January 1983

To Whom It May Concern;

In answer to your inquiry about the buildings at 2726 Santa Rita Road, I
have made a survey of the historical information about the property and
the buildings.

The house is over eighty years old and was built by the owner of the property
at that time, Ben Oxsen. He apparently built other houses in the area using
the same floor plan, some of which are believed to be still standing.

~ile its origins seem interesting, the house itself has been so extensively
remodeled over the years as to lose significant early design features.
This, along with the severly deteriorated condition of the structure and the
loss of adjacent out-buildings, leaves the remaining structures with only
minor historical or architectural significance.

There are other much better examples in the area of farm houses from this
era, much more deserving of preservation efforts.

I am grateful that you have contacted me regarding the proposed demolition
of the structures. It has affored me the opportunity to conduct this survey
and also to make a photographic record of the structures. I would appreciate
being kept abreast of any other proposed action regarding older buildings in
Pleasanton.

Sincerely,

Ann Doss, Curator
ALVHS Museum

P.O.
