Box 520
Pleasanton, CA 94566
Subject: Proposed Change from 2 Hour to 3 Hour Parking Limit in Downtown Pleasanton
Honorable Mayor Hostcrman and Members of the Council,
In the on -going collaboration between the City and Pleasanton Downtown Association on how to
encourage residents and visitors to spend more time and dollars in the downtown, our
discussions have focused on the parking time limit. Many customers report feeling hurried out
of the downtown, and leave after lunch for fear of getting a parking citation. rather than hang out
and shop.
We discussed this issue with the PDA membership at Breakfast with the Board and received a
very favorable reaction from the merchants to increasing the titne limit for parking from 2 to 3
hours. We polled our membership by email about increasing the parking time limit from 2 to 3
hours, and got a surprisingly large response 38 in favor, and only 9 opposed. We checked with
most of those in opposition, and the several of the no voters withdrew their opposition the
primary concern was that lax enforcement with the 3 hour parking limit could lead to some
restaurant employees using customer parking. The Downtown Vitality Committee then
recommended the Board present this proposal to the City. Based on widespread support by the
merchants, general membership, and Downtown Vitality Committee the Board of Directors took
this position:
The Board of Directors of the Pleasanton Downtown Association requests the City of
Pleasanton to increase the time limit for on- street parking in downtown Pleasanton from 2
hours to 3 hours.
8311 llo
neasniuon,
Phone (925;48421°9it
dircctor(o pica tiautcai
‘11a■.plca‘1r'aynpt.4?
