Mayor Hosterman noted that there were no public speakers. Mr. Roush said the item has usually been introduced on the regular agenda and then given the opportunity for the community to comment on it, and assuming there were no objections, the item is moved to the Consent Calendar for the following meeting to provide an opportunity to sunshine it. Councilmember McGovern said she had received a couple of calls because of Daniel Bornstein's article in the Sunday newspaper which relates to retirement. They are trying to determine what your pension will be based upon Mr. Roush retiring with an additional benefit, and she questioned if this would be provided in a staff report. Mr. Fialho said staff can answer questions or respond directly to any Council question. He believes the issue is how the 8% employer contribution is reflected in terms of calculation of pension. The City makes this payment on behalf of the employee every year. When PERS meets with Mr. Roush and factor into his years of service and compensation, they treat that contribution as income, which is factored into the calculation. Councilmember McGovern said the article references unused sick leave which adds to the pension, cashing out vacation time upon retirement, selling back vacation, administrative leave, and a myriad of things which boost a pension. She requested the City Manager provide information as to whether Mr. Bornstein's claims make a difference when people retire in Pleasanton. Mr. Fialho said every jurisdiction is different in terms of how their PERS contract is structured. Some of the items raised in the article pertain to the City and others do not. Councilmember McGovern questioned if the public would know what goes into calculating someone's overall pension. Mr. Fialho said the public can contact the Human Resources Department or him, and he could provide information, and all information regarding compensation and benefits is also listed on the City's website. Vice Mayor Cook Kallio thanked Mr. Roush for his service to the City, and Councilmember Thorne welcomed him to the ranks of retirement. MOTION: It was M/S by Thorne /Sullivan to place the resolution amending compensation and other benefits for the City Attorney on the next regular Consent Calendar agenda.
