THE CITY OF <br />-~• ~'° '^''= CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />~'L£~S~NTONm <br />May 5, 2009 <br />Parks and Community Services <br />TITLE: ACCEPTANCE OF A GIFT FROM NANCY AND GARY HARRINGTON OF <br />A BRONZE SCULPTURE, TITLED "MONEYS' BENCH", BY ARTIST GARY <br />LEE PRICE <br />SUMMARY <br />Pleasanton residents Nancy and Gary Harrington propose to gift $49,000 to the City to <br />purchase a representational, three-piece, life-sized bronze sculpture of Claude Monet <br />for future placement in Lions Wayside Park, near the Firehouse Arts Center. The <br />proposed gift has received widespread support from the Civic Arts Commission, Parks <br />and Recreation Commission and members of the community. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Accept Gary Lee's "Moneys Bench" as a gift from Nancy and Gary Harrington. <br />CIVIC ARTS COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council accept the sculpture, "Moneys Bench." <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council accept the sculpture, "Moneys Bench." <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />The sculpture is valued at $49,000, and the Harrington's have donated the funds <br />($49,000) to the City's Public Art Acquisition Fund for the purchase of the sculpture by <br />the City. The City has paid a deposit of $5,000 to the vendor to hold the price of the <br />sculpture, pending approval of its acquisition by the City Council. In the event the <br />sculpture is not approved by Council, the deposit will be refunded to the City. <br />
