Councilmember McGovern asked that the public be updated on the current status of the <br />public/private sector salary study. She also noted extensive graffiti on the sound wall that faces <br />Windsor Drive and southbound I-680 Bernal Street exit. <br />COUNCIL REPORTS <br />Councilmember Thorne reported attendance at the National League of Cities Conference in <br />Washington which was comprised of local elected officials and staff from over 4,000 cities. He <br />suggested that the Council consider sending a second person in the future, as there was more <br />information than one person could absorb. He was encouraged by the elevated interest in <br />outreach to local governments and based on what he learned, Pleasanton is correct to have <br />appointed a committee for monitoring the distribution of stimulus funds. He said that he learned <br />the most from the appointments to the National Committee for Energy and the Environment as <br />well as the Committee on Economic Development and Housing. <br />He also noted that the League of California Cities has offered a drug discount program at no <br />cost to member cities who can issue the 20% discount card to be used at select drugstores by <br />anyone without medical insurance. <br />Mayor Hosterman attended a 2-day Energy Coalition Conference in Aspen, as well as a League <br />of California Cities -Housing and Economic Development Legislative Committee conference in <br />Los Angeles. The latter spent the day reviewing and establishing positions on upcoming <br />legislation. <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio reported that she was in Washington last week with a student who <br />won an essay contest; while there, she was able to meet with Congressman Stork's office as <br />well as those of Congressman McNerney and Senator Boxer.
