19.5 The written application Submitted to the Educational Standards Committee must include the following: A description of the educational level to be pursued. Employees pursuing a specific number of college credits as set forth in this plan in lieu of a BS or a BA degree must indicate a major field of study and submit a list of courses to be taken in that major field. Prior to enrollment in a junior college, college, or university, the employee must have received written approval from the Educational Standards Committee as to his/her eligibility to enroll in the Educational Incentive Plan. NOTE: No employee shall receive educational incentive pay for any educational level attained unless he/she has received advanced written approval from the Educational Standards Committee as set forth in this section. The junior college, college, or university from which an educational level is to be received must be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Educational Levels/Pay Educational levels attained under the Incentive Pay Plan must be completed with a total grade point average of "C" or better. The specific levels of educational achievement and their respective educational pay per- centages to which the educational incentive pay plan applies are as follows. In part, in recognition of the monthly salary established for the rank of Fire Captain as set forth in Section 5, the Union agrees effective July 1, 1984, to the reduction in the educational incentive pay percentage for Fire Captains for the following educational levels: BS/BA degree, 180 college quarter units, 120 college semester units. Said pay percentage shall be reduced from five percent (5%) to two and one-half percent (2-1/2%) as reflected below. -19-
