CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 84-334 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION URGING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NATIONAL <br />VETERANS' CEMETERY AT CAMP PARKS IN CONTRA COSTA <br />COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />the citizens of the United States of America have <br />traditionally provided a final resting place for <br />veterans of the armed forces; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Golden Gate Cemetery in northern California <br /> has reached its capacity; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, northern California is the home of over one million <br /> veterans; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS , <br /> <br />part of the lands of Camp Parks in Contra Costa <br />County would provide a beautiful and well located <br />site for a national cemetery; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />certain members of the United States Congress, notably <br />Robert Matsui, Ron Dellums, George Miller, Sala Burton, <br />Pete Stark and Don Edwards, and the staff of the Veterans' <br />Administration have indicated the suitablility of Camp <br />Parks as the site of a national cemetery; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br /> The City Council hereby supports a national cemetery <br />in the aesthetically pleasin~ rolling hills of a portion <br />of Camp Parks located in Contra Costa County, and urge the <br />Congress and the Veterans' Administration to move with <br />all due speed to make this concept a reality before it <br />is too late. <br /> <br />Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately <br /> upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br />THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED JULY 10, 1984 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE: <br /> <br />AYES: Councilmembers - Brandes, Butler, Mohr, Wood and <br /> Mayor Mercer <br />NOES: None ~(~ <br />ABSENT: None ~~ <br />By Doris George, Deputy City Clerk <br /> <br /> <br />
