Council or the Pleasanton City Council meets to discuss the legislation at a regularly <br />scheduled meeting. To ensure that the Tri-Valley's voice is heard at the State Capitol, <br />East Bay Division representatives and City staff will draft legislative opinion letters for <br />the Mayors' signatures. To ensure that any advocacy taken is consistent with the Tri- <br />Valley Cities' legislative principles, the Tri-Valley region has agreed on the following <br />principles for advocacy: <br />Protect: <br />• Local government control on matters of local concern <br />• Local government revenue and services <br />Promote and support: <br />• Equitable solutions to state/local housing crisis <br />• Ethical practices at all levels of government service <br />• Legislation and funding to improve local and regional transportation <br />• Legislation promoting the use of renewable resources, sustainable building <br />practices and environmental quality <br />• Policies and programs that enhance local public safety <br />Staff will use the League's legislative priorities and the principles for advocacy to guide <br />recommendations and actions throughout the year. <br />CONCLUSION <br />Staff will continue to monitor legislative issues and brief the City Council on critical items <br />as they arise. <br />Submitted by: Approve Iby: <br />1 <br />-~~1~<<< ~lLi-:~ ~7 <br />Maria Lara Nelson Fialho <br />Assistant to the City Manager City Manager <br />Page 7 of 7 <br />
