Firehouse Arts Center <br />Request: $980,000 <br />The Firehouse Arts Center will increase the presence of the arts in Downtown <br />Pleasanton. The project will highlight the community's original historic brick Firehouse <br />#1, which will serve as an arts venue, focal point and center of activity for the city's <br />historic Downtown. The Center will provide opportunities for the public to explore <br />creative interests and talents and experience the works of professional fine and <br />performing artists. It is expected that the Center will expand the Downtown area and <br />significantly improve the economic vitality of the city's beautiful and historic commercial <br />core. The request was submitted to fund two components: the adaptive reuse of the <br />historic firehouse and the cost of the solar photovoltaic panel installation. <br />2. Alviso Adobe Community Park Interpretive Programs and Exhibits <br />Request: $514,000 <br />Federal funding will allow the City of Pleasanton to pilot and develop a community park <br />program and exhibit project designed to enhance the visitor's experience at the Alviso <br />Adobe with exhibits and experiential programming that include: <br />-- Enhanced Meadowlark Dairy exhibits <br />-- Enhanced Native American exhibits <br />-- Young Explorers Program <br />-- Day camps for children <br />-- Collaborative programming with the Museum on Main Street <br />3. Partnership with Axis Community Health, Pleasanton Unified School District <br />and the City of Pleasanton for Expanded At-risk Youth Counseling Services <br />Request: $250,000 <br />School counseling services follow the traditional school calendar including holidays and <br />summer vacation. This program is an expansion of the regular counseling services <br />available in Pleasanton schools. The program will provide much needed attention and <br />counseling services to at-risk students. Due to recent budget cuts, the number of <br />elementary, middle and high school counselors will be reduced significantly, with the <br />greatest impact being at the elementary and high school sites. Through a partnership <br />with Axis Community Health, marriage/family therapy interns will provide counseling at <br />both the elementary and high school settings and be appointed and supervised by <br />school counselors. <br />Page 5 of 7 <br />
