Page 2 of
Las 'Positas would not he the route. The MOU between the City of Pleasanton and Alameda County that
has guided the specific Staples planning process is now nearly three years old. Due to these uncertain
economic times, assumptions and circumstances the MOU was based on have changed considerably.
The County has offered to pay for the completion of Stoneridge Drive, but only if it's done with the
Staples ranch project. At an estimated cost of million, along with the County's pledge to commit an
additional $1 million to the City of Pleasanton for off-site traffic mitigations, Pleasanton taxpayers gill
save an estimated $6 million.
Furthermore, from our personal situation, we live off of Busch Road and Valley Avenue. Our Valley
Avenue neighborhoods are carrying an unnecessary amount of traffic burden because of the delays on
finishing Stoneridge Drive. The Stoneridge neighbors who claim they had no idea Stoneridge would go
through is a sham. First of all, Stoneridge was beautifully designed and landscaped, and planned so that,
unlike W. Las Positas, no homes would front on Stoneridge. The road running right up to the barricade
at the end begs the question that the road would someday be built out. And even if they didn't know,
that is no reason to not act on Stoneridge now, when the County will bear the burden of the expense but
all of the residents of the City will benefit from the better traffic flow around town.
In challenging economic tunes when cutbacks and closures are all too commonplace, 'it is critical for the
City of Pleasanton to demonstrate decisive leadership. We urge you to take advantage of the County's
offer to pay to finish Stoneridge give now. Send a positive message to the parties to the Staples lunch
development (Hendrick, CC, Fremont Land, San ,dose Sharks) that we value their choosing Pleasanton,
and we are working decisively toward mating that happen. Delays of any kind, no matter how well
intended, put this project and the City of Pleasanton"s reputation, as a place to do business, at risk.
Mayor Ho terman, now is the time to deliver on your campaign promise to build Stoneridge Drive. This
6
is truly in the best interests of the total community, and the fair and right thing to do.
Sincerely,
Derek & Erin Kvitad
Pleasanton Residents since 1971/1970
2/10/2009
