An efficient freeway <br />network combined with regular commuter bus service, which connects with the <br />Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations enables City residents to work anywhere <br />in the Bay Area. <br /> <br /> Due to the effects of the recession, Alameda County's unemployment rate <br />rpse frp, 6.3 percent in 1980 to 9.3 percent in 1982. However, employment <br />data for the County through October 1983 indicate that the average <br />unemployment rate for the year thus far has decreased to 8.8 percent. It <br />should be pointed out that this rate is based on an average of monthly rates <br />which have decreased steadily from 10.6 percent in January to 7.1 percent in <br />October. <br /> <br /> The average unel~ployment rate for the State and the nation through October <br />1983 are lO.O percent and 9.9 percent, respectively. <br /> <br /> The following table presents employment data and forecasts compiled by the <br />State Employment Development Department. <br /> <br />E-2 <br /> <br /> <br />
