CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br /> <br />ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA <br />RESOLUTION NO. 99-142 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION REGARDING <br />ACHIEVEMENT FUND <br /> <br />GRANT YOUTH <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> <br />at its meeting of December 7, 1999, the City Council received a report from the <br />Director of Parks and Community Services (SR 99:342) regarding the Youth <br />Achievement Fund; and <br /> <br />due to the growing number of requests from individuals and organizations, the <br />fiscal implications for this type of fund are difficult to quantify; and <br /> <br />financial support for these activities has historically been provided through <br />community fund-raisers and/or private contributions; and <br /> <br />though staff and the Council are proud of the personal commitments of talented <br />indiviudals/teams and the prestige that their efforts bring to Pleasanton, there is a <br />concern about distributing public ~mds for their attendance at <br />competitions/showcases. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES <br />AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1: <br /> <br />The $5,000 Youth Achievement Fund for trips and competitions is eliminated, but <br />Council supports public recognition of these achievements through the adoption of <br />commendations at televised Council meetings encouraging community <br />contributions. <br /> <br />Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon its passage and adoption. <br /> <br /> <br />
