5. Authorize staff to provide guidance to Pleasanton Pioneer Cemetery Inc. to support the
Cemetery in the same way that the Friends of the Library support the Library in terms of
events and fundraising; however, they would not have a role in the governance of the
cemetery.
6. Authorize staff to prepare a contract with Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services for
funeral services and records management for plots already sold.
Staff believes that acquisition under these conditions will meet community expectations for
Cemetery care and preservation, and protect the City as much as possible given the level of
unknown information at this time.
FISCAL IMPACT
The following tables summarize the estimated costs associated with maintenance of and site
improvements to the Cemetery should the City decide to acquire the site (all estimates in 2006
dollars):

Service O tion "Pioneer"
Cemeter "Landscaped"
Cemeter
Estimated One-Time Costs for maintenance $204,000 $742,000
Estimated On- oin Costs for maintenance $ 23,470 $ 75,365
As indicated above, staff recommends that the most significant site improvements be
incorporated into next years CIP for City Council review and approval. However, staff
anticipates the need to address safety improvement immediately, which would be in the range of
$120,000. The actual costs would be determined after a staff developed work plan. Funding
would be identified as part of the City's quarterly budget review. Acquisition cost is expected to
be $1.
Respectfully Submitted,
~~~ ~~
Lone Tinfow
Administrative Services Director
~~ ~~~
David P.
