THE CITY OF V -~- ~ CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT [~L£~S~NTONo December 16, 2008 Community Development Engineering Division TITLE: APPROVAL OF CONTRACT AMENDMENT NO. 1 WITH KIMLEY-HORN AND ASSOCIATES FOR ENGINEERING SERVICES FOR THE DESIGN OF SANTA RITA AND VALLEY AVENUE WIDENING IMPROVEMENTS, CIP N0.975039 SUMMARY City Council awarded a contract to Kimley-Horn and Associates for design services and preparation of construction documents for the subject project on March 4, 2008. During the preliminary design phase, the need for additional engineering services was identified. The additional design services are required due to the refined limits of work which include replacing the entire traffic control signal system, mast arms, traffic cabinet and pedestrian pork chop island. Staff is proposing that the initially approved not-to- exceed contract limit of $111,684 be increased to $168,622, an increase of $56,938. RECOMMENDATION Approve Amendment No. 1 (Attachment 1) to the contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc., increasing the authorization of expenditures from anot-to- exceed total contract amount of $111,684 to $168,622. 2. Authorize the City Manager to execute the attached contract amendment. FINANCIAL STATEMENT The subject project will improve traffic flow and no additional annual maintenance costs are anticipated with these modifications. Funds for this work are included in the approved Capital Improvement Program budget (see Attachment 2 for the project Funding and Expenditure Summary). Contract Amendment No. 1 will result in an additional cost not-to-exceed $56,938 to be paid from the project budget, CIP No. 975039.
