ABSTRACT

The Master Plan for McKinley Park was generated by LandUse, Environmental & Urban
Planning Consultants/Landscape Architects, at the request of the City of Pleasanton.
McKinley Park is one of several parks presently under renovation or construction under
the Open Space policy of the Pleasanton General Plan.

McKinley Park is an existing 4-acre park located close to downtown Pleasanton. Originally,
the site housed water tanks for the City of Pleasanton. With its natural grasses and
trees, the site became an informal park.

The recommendations included are based on the opinions expressed by neighbors of the
park, the direction given by the Parks and Recreation Commission, and the needs and
requirements of the City of Pleasanton as expressed in numerous meetings with members
of the City Staff.

Throughout the process of preparing this report, it has been clear that there is widespread
agreement among those involved regarding the low level of improvements desired at the
park. Accordingly, the major recommendation of the Plan is to leave the park substantially
as it is. The other recommendations include construction of a fence at the site perimeter,
construction of a small parking area, removal of dead trees, grading flat areas to drain,
and seeding bare-ground areas.
