CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA RESOLUTION NO. 85-397 RESOLUTION OF INTENTION TO MODIFY THE "DOWNTOWN PLEASANTON BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT" WHEREAS, the Parking and Business Improvement Area Law of 1979 (Section 36000 et seq. of Streets and Highways Code) authorizes cities to establish or modify a parking and business improvement area and impose assessments and charges on businesses within the area, in addition to the general business license tax, if any, in the city, and to use such proceeds for the general promotion of business activities and related purposes; and WHEREAS, it appears in the public interest that such an area be continued within the City of Pleasanton because a thriving downtown serves: i. to preserve and enhance Pleasanton's heritage, ii. to give character and identity to this community, iii. to make a wider range of shopping, dining and community events available to our citizens, iv. to provide employment for our residents, v. to create opportunities for new businesses, vi. and increase tax revenues for the provision of public services; and WHEREAS, a committee of affected merchants has been meeting with Councilmember Mohr to work out an acceptable schedule of assessments, and has come to a recommendation; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section 1: That this Council hereby declares its intention to modify the "Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District" in the City of Pleasanton pursuant to the provisions of Section 36500 et seq. of the Streets and Highways Code of the State of California. Section 2: That the proposed boundary of said proposed Downtown Pleasanton Business Improvement District is as set forth in the map shown as Exhibit A to the draft ordinance (attached).
