THE CITY OF 7 <br />- -' '=~ "" CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L~~S~4NTONo <br />October 21, 2008 <br />Operations Services <br />City Attorneys Office <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF A STREETLIGHT LICENSE AGREEMENT WITH PG8~E <br />FOR ITS SMARTMETER PROGRAM <br />SUMMARY <br />PG&E is implementing what it calls its SmartMeter program that utilizes automated <br />metering technology to allow PG&E to track energy use by time of day and provide <br />customers information on the true cost impact of their electricity and natural gas use. In <br />order to carry out this program within Pleasanton, PG&E has requested to use four City <br />owned street light poles on which to mount its data collection units. The remainder <br />would be on poles owned by PG&E or other utility companies. PG&E would use the <br />City poles under a 20 year License Agreement. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION <br />Authorize the City Manager to sign the attached Streetlight License Agreement. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />PG&E will pay the City $780 ($39/pole x 20 years) for each street light pole it uses. <br />
