6 <br />Proclamation <br />WHEREAS, the annual observance of Veterans Day demonstrates the appreciation of a grateful <br />nation for all who have served in the Armed Forces; and <br />WHEREAS, those who currently serve or have served most recently in the Armed Forces aze <br />sometimes overlooked in the mix of current events and issues; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton recognizes and acknowledges the significant differences of <br />opinion that exist among residents with regard to the conflict in Iraq; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton recognizes that several hundred Pleasanton residents have <br />served in both Iraq and Afghanistan since late 2001, many having served in both <br />conflicts, and many continuing to volunteer and serve our nation; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pleasanton City Council has "adopted" several military units in order to provide <br />more tangible support to our deployed service members; and <br />WHEREAS, the Pleasanton community has come together on numerous occasions to conduct <br />"Welcome Home" events in support of our residents returning from Iraq and <br />Afghanistan; and <br />WHEREAS, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with those who serve our nation in these <br />difficult times. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Pleasanton City Council commends and <br />expresses its gratitude to the Residents of Pleasanton who have served in the United States Armed <br />Forces since September 11, 2001 and hereby recognizes their service, sacrifice, success and heroism. <br />Jennifer Hosterman, Mayor <br />Jerry Thorne, Vice Mayor <br />Cindy McGovern, Councilmember <br />Cheryl Cook-Kallio, Councilmember <br />Matt Sullivan, Councilmember <br />
