CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 85-378

RESOLUTION OPPOSING EXTENSION OF HORSE RACING
BEYOND THAT OCCURRING DURING THE ALAMEDA
COUNTY FAIR

WHEREAS, articles have appeared in the local newspapers
indicating that the Alameda County Board of Supervisors
in discussing the possible relocation of horse racing
from Golden Gate Fields in Albany to the Alameda County
Fairground in Pleasanton; and

WHEREAS, the Alameda County Fairgrounds does now provide a
facility available to family activities year round to
residents of Pleasanton and all residents of Alameda
County; and

WHEREAS, an expanded horse racing program would discourage the
use of the Alameda County Fairgrounds for many existing
desirable activities; and

WHEREAS, the horse racing facilities at the Alameda County
Fairgrounds are located immediately adjacent to
residential areas within the City of Pleasanton which
are affected by the traffic, noise, litter, and other
nuisances created by use of the horse racing facility;
and

WHEREAS, proper traffic control requires numerous residential
streets to be posted for no parking during the Alameda
County Fair, and extending this necessary imposition for
longer than the two week run of the fair would be an
unfair imposition upon these neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, Pleasanton would be adversely affected if horse racing
activities were expanded beyond the horse racing now
conducted in conjunction with the Alameda County Fair;
