negotiations with the Sharks to include park amenities with the ice facility and to pursue more <br />discussion with Fremont Land to develop the site to compliment the park. <br />Amy Blaschka, Tri-Valley Convention and Visitors Bureau President, voiced support for the <br />proposed Sharks ice facility, partnering with the Sharks would provide 9900 booked hotel room <br />nights annually or $4 million in economic impact and infusion of cash to the local community. <br />Brad Hirst said the Council is in a win-win situation, supported the neighborhood park, <br />supported a second restroom, noted the hockey tournaments have 24 teams that must travel <br />which translates to 34,560 miles, taking 3.7 cars off the road annually, or $11,144 in gas, plus <br />added TOT, and he felt the impact on air quality was priceless. <br />Kurt Kummer, Parks and Recreation Commissioner, said he believes the plan is a great one, <br />urged the Council's approval, noted the community involvement, supported a Sharks ice facility, <br />believed the town needs more all-weather lighted sports fields, thanked the sports groups who <br />stepped aside by providing compromise, and said people will be able to get from Pleasanton all <br />the way out towards Danville and Martinez and get more people using the trail. <br />Brenda Harris supported approval of the park plan, discussed how their son began playing <br />hockey at Dublin Iceland and now plays for Northwestern University in Boston, and that she <br />supported the Sharks ice facility. <br />Joan Fahmie said she is still skating, said she is president of an ice skating club with 450 <br />members and 150 are from the Tri-Valley area, supported the ice facility and the Sharks <br />organization and discussed her work with special disability skating programs. <br />Don Gralnek, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Sharks and San Jose Arena <br />Management, said they have a strong interest in developing the facility as part of the Staples <br />Ranch project. He discussed their programs and mission, believes they are proposing a <br />partnership in terms on how the facility will be used and operated and thinks it will be a great <br />resource for the community and urged the Council to move forward with approval of the master <br />plan. <br />Sharrell Michelotti thanked staff and workshop participants, supported and urged adoption of the <br />master plan and especially the economic and recreation benefit of a Sharks facility and spoke <br />about their grandson's first visit to the Dublin ice rink. <br />Debbie Look expressed strong support of the entire master plan and the ice facility and urged <br />for the plan's approval. <br />Jan Batcheller believes the process has been thorough and complete, supported the park and <br />ice facility, and urged the Council's support of the master plan. <br />Cliff MacDonald voiced support for the ice skating facility, believed it will be astate-of-the-art <br />facility for figure skaters, hockey players and recreational ice skaters, spoke of his coaching <br />experience and confidence in the Shark's ability to develop a first class facility. <br />Richard Pugh thanked Dan Faustina and his community group and Mr. Wolfe for their open and <br />transparent work, endorsed building on the success of the public process, supported the Sharks <br />ice facility and requested the issue of the value proposition of the leasing of public land to a <br />commercial enterprise be addressed and discussed with the community. <br />Special Meeting Minutes 5 June 10, 2008 <br />
