RESOLUTION NO. 08-236 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />SUPPORTING A COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION IN PLEASANTON TO BE FORMED <br />BY SENTINELS OF FREEDOM <br />WHEREAS, the Sentinels of Freedom, a grassroots non-profit organization created in <br />2004, accepts the responsibility for the well-being of severely injured men and women of the <br />U.S. Armed Forces who are returning to civilian life; and <br />WHEREAS, these soldiers will have the opportunity to reengage into society and to <br />adapt to their new physical challenges and surroundings to live a life of complete self- <br />sufficiency; and <br />WHEREAS, the community is encouraged to join a volunteer team that helps mobilize <br />and carry out the Sentinels of Freedom mission, coordinates and manages local donations as <br />well as event preparations; and <br />WHEREAS, the Sentinels of Freedom look to its community to support these injured <br />soldiers through its Sentinels of Freedom Scholarship program that helps them readjust to <br />civilian life and prosper in their hometowns; and <br />WHEREAS, "Welcome Home" Ceremonies are coordinated by volunteer teams, that are <br />attended by community members, military leaders and dignitaries to formally thank the Sentinels <br />for their military service; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton supports the Sentinels of Freedom and encourages <br />community members to get involved and help reengage injured soldiers back into the <br />community . <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br />SECTION 7. The City of Pleasanton in the State of California does hereby support the <br />Sentinels of Freedom organization. <br />SECTION 2. The City Council hereby designates the Sentinels of Freedom to offer a <br />Scholarship Program and Welcome Home Ceremonies to soldiers returning to Pleasanton. <br />SECTION 3. City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this resolution and enter it into <br />the book of original resolutions. <br />PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br />a regular meeting held on September 16, 2008. <br />
