1 <br />MINUTES <br />CITY OF PLEASANTON <br />REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING <br />August 19, 2008 <br />CALL TO ORDER: Vice Mayor Thorne called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and <br />Councilmember Sullivan led in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br />Introductory Comments: Councilmember Sullivan announced the following events: <br />Goodguys West Coast Nationals, August 22 through August 24; 143rd Scottish Highland <br />Gathering and Games August 30 and 31. <br />Councilmember Sullivan asked for a minute of silence for our soldiers in Iraq and Iraqi citizens <br />who have been displaced by this war. <br />Roll Call <br />Present: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Vice-Mayor Thorne <br />Absent: Mayor Hosterman <br />AGENDA AMENDMENTS <br />Councilmember McGovern asked to extend the rebuttal period to 5:00 PM on August 25 to allow <br />time for preparation given the Council meeting was held this week. It was confirmed that the <br />proposed extension is allowed in the Election Code. All of the information was not received until <br />this past Monday. Councilmember Sullivan agreed with this request and cited work <br />commitments. Councilmember Cook-Kallio proposed keeping with the current deadline of <br />Friday, August 22 given the proposal is only 250 words. <br />Motion: It was m/s by McGovern/Sullivan to place an item on the agenda to consideration <br />extension of the rebuttal period to 5:00 PM, August 25, 2008. Motion failed to pass by the <br />following vote: <br />Aye: Councilmembers McGovern, Sullivan <br />Noes: Councilmember Cook-Kallio, Vice Mayor Thorne <br />Absent: Mayor Hosterman <br />CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Councilmember Sullivan requested removing the minutes of June 10 and June 26 in order to <br />review the tapes. <br />In response to a question by Councilmember McGovern, City Manager Fialho reported he <br />spoke to staff about her concern whether or not there is a copy available of records such as <br />felony convictions and sale of guns and what agency holds the records. He said these are <br />forwarded to the DA for investigation. In addition to the two year retention, when there is <br />criminal prosecution, the County of Alameda retains some of those copies on file. <br />Administrative Services <br />1. Approved regular and special meeting minutes of July 15, 2008, as corrected, with <br />Councilmember Cook-Kallio abstaing, and pulled from agenda special meeting minutes <br />of June 10, 2008 and special meeting minutes of June 26, 2008 <br />
