13 <br />THE~F <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L£~S~NTONa <br />August 19, 2008 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND <br />AWARD OF CONSTRUCTIO <br />COMPANY IN THE AMOUNT <br />VARIOUS CITY STREETS, CI <br />SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS, AND <br />N CONTRACT TO VALLEY SLURRY SEAL <br />OF $157,394 FOR SLURRY SEALING OF <br />P NO. 075004 <br />SUMMARY <br />Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project. Bids have been <br />received and staff is recommending award of the construction contract to the lowest <br />responsible bidder, Valley Slurry Seal Company, in the amount of $157,394.20 for slurry <br />sealing of various City streets. Slurry sealing will prolong the service life of the existing <br />pavement by application of a thin coat of an asphalt/aggregate slurry to the street <br />surface. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br />2. Review the bids received and award the construction contract to Valley Slurry <br />Seal Company of Sacramento, for a low bid amount of $157,394.20. <br />3. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br />4. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $15,740 (10% of the contract <br />amount) for necessary related project work. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project is part of the City's on-going preventive maintenance efforts to prolong the <br />service life of the existing street pavement. These projects are expected to help control <br />long-term maintenance costs. A summary of project funding and the construction <br />budget is presented in Attachment 1 to this report. <br />
