9
THE CITY OF
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L£~S~4NTONo
August 19, 2008
Parks and Community Services
TITLE: APPROVAL OF PROPOSED FY2008/09 PARK RENOVATION FUND
PROJECTS
SUMMARY
Beginning in 1990, the City established a series of replacement/renovation funds where
reserves are accumulated to fund future replacement costs. As part of the City's
Replacement Plan, the Park Renovation Fund provides for major renovations to City
parks, facilities, and street medians. For FY2008/09, $838,000 is available for
renovation projects. A significant portion of this year's funding ($290,000) is
recommended for renovation of street median landscaping. Funding in the amount of
$240,000 is also recommended for the replacement of playgrounds at Valley Trails and
Meadowlark parks, with $150,000 needed to continue the ongoing project to
systematically renovate all ball fields at Sports and Recreation Community Park.
Finally, $158,000 is proposed for as-needed repairs to various park components
throughout the system, including fencing ($44,000), playground surfacing ($40,000),
benches and picnic tables ($30,000), sidewalk repairs ($24,000), and irrigation
components ($20,000).
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION
That the City Council approve the proposed list of Park Renovation projects for
FY2008/09.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
Sufficient funding is available in the FY2008/09 Park Renovation Fund to offset the cost
of the proposed improvements.
