9 <br />THE CITY OF <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L£~S~4NTONo <br />August 19, 2008 <br />Parks and Community Services <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PROPOSED FY2008/09 PARK RENOVATION FUND <br />PROJECTS <br />SUMMARY <br />Beginning in 1990, the City established a series of replacement/renovation funds where <br />reserves are accumulated to fund future replacement costs. As part of the City's <br />Replacement Plan, the Park Renovation Fund provides for major renovations to City <br />parks, facilities, and street medians. For FY2008/09, $838,000 is available for <br />renovation projects. A significant portion of this year's funding ($290,000) is <br />recommended for renovation of street median landscaping. Funding in the amount of <br />$240,000 is also recommended for the replacement of playgrounds at Valley Trails and <br />Meadowlark parks, with $150,000 needed to continue the ongoing project to <br />systematically renovate all ball fields at Sports and Recreation Community Park. <br />Finally, $158,000 is proposed for as-needed repairs to various park components <br />throughout the system, including fencing ($44,000), playground surfacing ($40,000), <br />benches and picnic tables ($30,000), sidewalk repairs ($24,000), and irrigation <br />components ($20,000). <br />PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION <br />That the City Council approve the proposed list of Park Renovation projects for <br />FY2008/09. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Staff concurs with the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Commission. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />Sufficient funding is available in the FY2008/09 Park Renovation Fund to offset the cost <br />of the proposed improvements. <br />
