Mr. Martin W. Inderbitzen
May 27, 1986
Page 7 T

5. A LFG extraction system near the property boundary should be.-
effective in removing the LFG from the Martin Property.
Removal would be to a level to comply with state and federal
regulations.

6. Additional investigation work is not required to define the
area1 extent of LFG movement onto the Martin Property.

Our recommendations for reducing the LFG concentrations on the Martin
Property to the 1 ira its prescribed by regulations, based on this
study, are:

1. Install a gas extraction well and mechanical blower near the
Martin Property boundary. Operate the blower and monitor
the methane concentrations in Boreholes M5, M8, and M9.
Measure pressure differentials in the monitoring probes to
determine system performance.

2. If methane concentrations do not drop in those boreholes,
install a second extraction well on the Martin Property to
extract the LFG in the area of MS, MS, and M9. No drop in
methane concentration would indicate discontinuous sand
lenses.

3. Continue to operate the extraction wells until legal limits
are obtained. The boundary well will be operated as long as
the landfill continues to generate LFG.

Under separate cover we have prepared a preliminary cost estimate to
complete an LFG extraction and treatment facility. We would be
pleased to continue this project into the design phase. We are
prepared to discuss our conclusions and recommendations with you.

Very truly yours,

Hilary Theisen
Vice President ~.~;..e~
'... .......'
MEL: lah
Enc 1 o su re s

cc/enc: Ms. Mary Lucas, Brown and Caldwell

BROWN AND CALDWELL
P 0 BOX 8045 WALNUT CREEK.
