1
MINUTES
CITY OF PLEASANTON
REGULAR CITY COUNCIL
AND
SPECIAL LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETING
June 17, 2008
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Hosterman called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and Councilmember Cook-
Kallio led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
Introductory Comments: Councilmember Cook-Kallio announced the upcoming events: The
2008 Alameda County Fair Parade kicks off June 21St and the Fair runs from June 20 -July 6;
beginning July 11th the Pleasanton Senior Center will become a monthly stop for the mobile
health units, sponsored by Valley Care Health System.
Roll Call
Present: Councilmembers Cook-Kallio, McGovern, Sullivan, Thorne, Mayor Hosterman
Absent: None
AGENDA AMENDMENTS
Councilmember Sullivan requested continuance of Items 20 and 17A. Councilmember Cook-
Kallio asked to reconsider continuance of Item 17A. Councilmember Sullivan briefly discussed
the purpose of Item 17A, placing a competing measure on the ballot, possibly scheduling a
special meeting, and the need for community participation. Councilmember Cook-Kallio voiced
concerns with participation due to the summer schedule and those present and available tonight
to speak.
Mayor Hosterman agreed there were conflicting summer schedules and suggested tentatively
setting a special meeting for July 1, 2008. Councilmember Sullivan requested a vote of the
Council to schedule this date, as it was previously canceled by the entire Council some time
ago, as well as the first regular August meeting date.
Councilmembers discussed additional alternate dates in July and August and due to
Councilmember availability, Item 17A was proposed to be continued to a date certain.
City Attorney Roush said the options per the Council Rules are that any Councilmember may
continue an item not subject to a legally or imposed deadline to the next Council meeting (July
15) or to another date agreeable to a Council majority.
Mayor Hosterman confirmed Item 17b remained on the agenda.
Councilmember Cook-Kallio referred to the Minutes of May 20, 2008, Matters Initiated, wherein
it stated she traveled to the Amador Valley Competition Civics Team at the Nationals. She said
it was actually in Washington, D.C. On the minutes of June 3, 2008, she needed to recuse
herself up to 8:35 p.m. Councilmember McGovern and Thorne also noted they provided the City
Clerk with minor corrections to the minutes, which were reflected.
