CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION NO. 86-418

A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SCHOOL UNIFICATION

PREAMBLE

A. One goal which is unquestionably shared by the
people of Pleasanton and the people of Dublin is that we all want
the best possible education for our children.

B. Education includes not only classroom activities,
but also after school activities, including education enrichment
and recreational programs which are typically offered by cities
to their more youthful citizens.

C. If school district boundaries correspond more
closely with city limit lines, then the possibilities for
cooperation between city officials and school officials for the
educational enrichment of our children will be vastly expanded.
City-School cooperation will increase the quality of education
for children from both Pleasanton and Dublin.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON
RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS:

Section 1: The City Council endorses the School Unification plan
described in the July 1986 analysis prepared by the
Alameda County Superintendent of Schools, because we
believe the result will improve the educational
opportunity for each child in the school districts
affected by the unification proposal.

Section 2: This resolution shall become effective immediately
upon its passage and adoption.

THIS RESOLUTION ADOPTED SEPTEMBER 2, 1986 BY THE FOLLOWING VOTE:

AYES: Councilmembers - Butler, Mercer, Mohr, Wood and Mayor
Brandes
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
ABSTAIN: None . .- ,~,I-' M,~~y~R
ATTEST: FRANK C .~ BR~DES, JR. ,
Jam~~esR. ~alker, City Clerk
By Doris George, Deputy City Clerk

AS TO
APP ovED

Peter'D] M~cDona ~'Ci y~A ~69n~
1
