RESOLUTION NO. 08- 212 <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, <br />SUPPORTING THE INSTALLATION AND ACTIVATION OF WESTBOUND I-580 <br />RAMP METERS IN PLEASANTON <br />WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton and Caltrans have an I-580 Freeway Maintenance <br />Agreement; and <br />WHEREAS, metering on ramp traffic at freeway interchanges has been found to be very <br />effective in improving traffic flow and reducing traffic collisions on freeways; and <br />WHEREAS, Caltrans staff has agreed to work with City staff in operating the onramp <br />metering system to facilitate both improved freeway and surface street traffic flow; and <br />WHEREAS, recent eastbound ramp metering activation has significantly improved traffic <br />flow on I-580 and reduced regional cut-through traffic in Pleasanton; and <br />WHEREAS, the traffic metering system can be activated at no cost to the City. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: <br />SECTION 1. Support the activation of westbound I-580 ramp meters in Pleasanton. <br />SECTION 2. If staff or the City Council finds that one or more of the metered ramps <br />results in unacceptable increases in traffic delays or congestion, Caltrans will - at the City's <br />request -operate the specified onramp metering lights in constant green mode or at the <br />demand rate during the time period necessary to eliminate the negative impact the metering <br />light is having on the adjoining City roadway or intersection. <br />PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at <br />a regular meeting held on June 3, 2008. <br />I, Karen Diaz, City Clerk of the City of Pleasanton, California, certify that the foregoing <br />resolution was adopted by the City Council at a regular meeting held on the 3`d day of June, <br />2008 by the following vote: <br />Ayes: Councilmembers McGovern, Sullivan, <br />Noes: None <br />Absent: Councilmember Cook-Kallio <br />Abstain: None <br />APP~~OVEDA~S ~TOp F/O/RM <br />Michael H.
