MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 11. Proclamation Naming the Week of May 10 - 18, as "National Tourism Week" Councilmember McGovern read the proclamation, proclaiming the Week of May 10-18 as "National Tourism Week" and presented it to Kerri Geiger from the Tri-Valley Convention and Visitors' Bureau. 12. Proclamation Proclaiming the Week of May 26 - 31 as "Community of Character Week" Councilmember McGovern read the proclamation and presented it to Ellen Pinsky, President of the Pleasanton Community of Character Collaborative. 13. Recognition of Commissioners Leaving Office Mayor Hosterman acknowledged and thanked representatives from the Pleasanton Housing Commission, Library Commission, the Youth Commission, the Economic Vitality Committee, the Civic Arts Commission, Human Services, and Parks and Recreation Commission for their service. She said the position of commissioner is to meet with other commissioners with support from staff to identify issues that pertain to that particular commission and to develop policy considerations and advice for the City Council. Oath of Office for newly appointed commissioners Mayor Hosterman called for newly appointed commissioners and the City Clerk administered the Oath of Office. MEETING OPEN TO THE PUBLIC 15. Public Comment Julia Businger announced the Museum on Main will participate in International Museum Month by hosting special events on May 14-16, 2008, including special tours, displays, and gallery talks designed to further educate the public. Diane Rodriguez voiced her admiration for the Kane family donation toward the Marilyn Murphy Kane Trail and said her family was inspired to also donate. She encouraged others to donate, as well. Kathy Dowding shared a passage from a Martin Luther King Jr. speech, read the names of the 34 people who most recently died in Iraq, and announced the monthly Pleasantonians for Peace Vigil at the Museum on Main St. on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 pm. Christine Steiner thanked the current and past City Councils and Planning Commissioners who helped develop the Park View Assisted Living Center, said staff will come forward soon with a plan for Kottinger and Pleasanton Gardens and hoped for the Council's continued support. Brian Arkin thanked Councilmembers Sullivan and McGovern for their support in the referendum process, reported the Tri-Valley Sierra Club voted to support the appeal of the Oak Grove Referendum ruling, and said they look forward to working with the Sierra Club to overturn the ruling.
