RESOLUTION NO. 08-196 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON, REAFFIRMING ITS ADOPTION OF A UNIT THROUGH THE AMERICA SUPPORTING AMERICANS PROGRAM WHEREAS, American military forces are either engaged in defending or are prepared to defend and support American interests and principles; and WHEREAS, the Adopt-A-Unit program created by America Supporting Americans on March 4, 1968, provides a mechanism whereby all branches of the United States Armed Services can be "adopted" by American communities ;and WHEREAS, the purpose of this adoption program is to create a bond between American communities and support the morale of the military men and women who bravely serve their country; and WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton supports the men and women serving in the armed forces, both at home and abroad, and honor their continued commitment to our nation's safety and security as well as that of the world community; and WHEREAS, in recognition of the redeployment of the American service men and service women of unit C-Company, 526th BSB, 101st Airborne it is appropriate and fitting that the City of Pleasanton reaffirm its original commitment to the America Supporting Americans Program in 2003, and its adoption of unit C-Company, 526th BSB, 101st Airborne in 2005; and WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton feels it is critical for our troops to know that American citizens support them during their mission. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETERMINE AND ORDER THE FOLLOWING: SECTION 1. The City of Pleasanton in the State of California does hereby reaffirm its adoption of the following unit and further reaffirms its offer of ongoing respect and support, in the time of war and in peace, to the unit of C-Company, 526th BSB, 101st Airborne. SECTION 2. The City Council hereby designates the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6298 as the official liaison between the City, community, the adopted unit, and America Supporting Americans, the organization which has facilitated this adoption. SECTION 3. City Clerk shall certify to the passage of this resolution and enter it into the book of original resolutions. PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Pleasanton at a regular meeting held on May 20, 2008.
