CITY COUNCII.OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON ALAMEDA COUNTY, ALAMEDA RESOLUTION N0.03-032 RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ACTIVATING THE EASTBOUND I-580 ON RAMP METERING SYSTEM ADJACENT TO THE CITY OF PLEASANTON WHEREAS, the City of Pleasanton and Caltrans have an I-580 Freeway Maintenance Agreement; and WHEREAS, metering on ramp traffic at freeway interchanges has been found to be very effective in improving traffic flow and reducing traffic collisions on freeways; and WHEREAS, traffic metering signals have been installed on the on ramps to I-580 from the Hopyard Road, Hacienda Drive and Santa Rita Road interchanges; and WHEREAS, the City's traffic model shows that traffic metering could not only reduce freeway congestion, but also reduce regional cut-through traffic along local City roadways; and WHEREAS, Caltrans staff has agreed to work with City staff in operating the on ramp metering system to facilitate both improved freeway and surface street traffic flow; and WHEREAS, the new eastbound I-580 auxiliary lane between Santa Rita Road and El Charro Road is scheduled to be opened to the public in April or May 2003; and WHEREAS, the traffic metering system can be activated at no-cost to the City. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PLEASANTON RESOLVES AS FOLLOWS: Section I: Supports Caltrans' activation of the eastbound I-580 on ramp metering system in Pleasanton in conformance with the provisions outlined in Exhibit "A," Agreement for Cooperative Management of the I-580 Corridor, concurrent with the opening of the eastbound I-580 auxiliary lane between Santa Rita Road and El Charro Road.
