BACKGROUND
In June 1998, the Pleasanton City Council and the Pleasanton Unified School District
Board of Trustees approved the establishment of a Youth Master Plan for the City of
Pleasanton. The approved plan also included a recommendation to establish a Youth
Master Plan Implementation Group (now, the Youth Master Plan Implementation
Committee) consisting of various representatives from the faith, non-profit, parent and
youth community. The representatives hold yearly terms from July to June of the
following year. Vacant seats are filled annually through the standard board and
commission application process.
DISCUSSION
This report recommends the YMPIC appointments for the 2008-2009 year. In concert
with the City's call for board and commission members, the City advertised and
requested applications be submitted to fill the YMPIC vacancies. Several applications
were received and a volunteer YMPIC subcommittee served on the interview panel.
Applicants were interviewed on April 15 and the interview panel announced the
recommended appointments during the May 12 YMPIC meeting. Further, the City of
Pleasanton and Pleasanton Unified School District Liaison Committee approved the
recommended appointments during the May 15 meeting.
The following applicants are recommended to serve on the YMPIC:
Applicant Name YMPIC Seat Represented Position
Brock Roby Non-Profit Agency Community Member
Amie Sousa Health and Crisis Representative Community Member
Jill Maratsos Elementary Parent at Large Parent Representative
Debra Rodondi High School Parent at Large Parent Representative
In addition, a Youth Commission Liaison member and Youth Commission Liaison
member alternate will be appointed to the YMPIC in September, when the Youth
Commission reconvenes. This appointment occurs directly through the Youth
Commission whereby members self nominate to serve in the liaison role with the
YMPIC.
On June 30, two youth member vacancies will occur due to graduations. Their seats will
be filled by existing YMPIC Youth Member alternates. The High School Parent at Large
seat will also be vacated and will be filled by the recommended representative. noted in
this report. As in previous occasions, existing representatives who expressed an
interest in continuing in their role were allowed to continue.
