Bernardi Deputy
Secretary of the United States Department of Housing
and Urban Development
451 7th Street SW
Washington DC 20410
Re: The Department of Housing and Urban Development's National Call to
Action for Affordable Housing through Regulatory Reform:
Dear Deputy Secretary Bernardi,
On behalf of the City of Pleasanton, I want to take this opportunity to state that we are
pleased to accept the Department of Housing and Urban Development's invitation to
become a participant in the National Call to Action for Affordable Housing through
Regulatory Reform. In honoring our pledge, we intend to work through our existing
Technical Advisory Team (TAT) and Customer Service Review Team (CSRT) to
address this issue and look forward to working with HUD and our fellow participants.
Like HUD, I believe it is imperative that we address the issue of regulatory reform at the
local level and develop homegrown solutions to ensure even more affordable housing
opportunities to working families. I also appreciate your understanding that it is
important to address this issue at the local level with local solutions. We look forward to
exchanging news and information with the Department and our fellow participants
throughout this great nation. Through our mutual efforts, there is no doubt more
Americans will find a place to call home.
I have asked Steven Bocian, Assistant City Manager (sbocian _ci.pleasanton.ca.us;
925-931-5002) and Scott Erickson, Housing Specialist (serickson(a~ci.pleasanton.ca.us;
925-931-5007) of my staff to work with HUD in this very important effort.
