d. A double check detector check valve must be
installed in the portion of the system between the
main line and the building. The sprinkler control
valve and fire department connections must be
installed on the building side of the check
valves.

e. The portion of the onsite system which is publicly
owned must be installed in accordance with City
Standard Specifications for Water Distribution
Systems.

See Standard Drawing No. Priv-1 for a typical public onsite
fire system layout.

If the onsite system is privately owned, the following apply:

a. The domestic and irrigation water services must
manifold off of the fire system within the public
right-of-way.

b. It is the owner's responsibility to routinely test
and maintain the onsite fire hydrants, valves, and
other system appurtenances.

c. The materials to be used for the onsite system may
be as allowed in NFPA Pamphlet 24, except that PVC
may not be used in the fire system.

d. Easements are not necessary for any portion of the
system on the building side of the water meters or
the double check detector check valve.

e. As when the onsite system is public, a double
check detector check valve must be installed in
the portion of the system between the mainline and
the building. The sprinkler control valve and the
FDC must be installed on the building side of the
check valves. The location of the three items,
however, is different with a private onsite
system, and must be as shown on Standard Drawing
Priv-2.

f. See Standard Drawing No. Priv-2 for a typical
privately owned onsite system layout.

For either type of system, the double check detector check
may be installed either above ground, or below ground in a
concrete vault. If below ground, clearances must be as

18
