THE CITY OF 15 <br />- - -~- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L£~S~4NTONo <br />May 20, 2008 <br />Public Works Department <br />TITLE: APPROVAL OF PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS, REVIEW OF BIDS, AND <br />AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO NORTH VALLEY <br />CONSTRUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF $206,366 FOR THE ANNUAL <br />CURB AND GUTTER REPLACEMENT, CIP N0.075009 <br />SUMMARY <br />Plans and specifications were prepared for the subject project. Bids have been <br />received and staff is recommending that the low bid from Nema Design Construction be <br />rejected and the contract be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder, North Valley <br />Construction, in the amount of $206,365.60. The subject project consists of the <br />removal and replacement of deficient sections of curb, gutter, sidewalk and driveway <br />including construction of access ramps and the installation of detectable warning <br />surfaces on existing access ramps on various City streets. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />1. Approve the plans and specifications for the subject project. <br />2. Review the summary of bids received. <br />3. Reject the bid received from Nema Design Construction. <br />4. Award the construction contract to North Valley Construction of Livermore, in the <br />amount of $206,365.60. <br />5. Authorize the City Manager to enter into the above construction contract. <br />6. Authorize the transfer of $97,638.72 from CIP No. 075003 (Annual Resurfacing <br />of Various City Streets) to Project No. 075009. <br />7. Authorize the Director of Public Works to approve and execute contract change <br />orders for a contingency amount not to exceed $41,273.12 (20% of the <br />construction contract), if necessary, for related subject project work. <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />This project will decrease maintenance costs. <br />
