21
THE CITY OF
-- `° `° -`- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
j~L~£~S~4NTONm
May 20, 2008
Administrative Services
TITLE: RECEIVE CERTIFICATION FOR THE INITIATIVE PETITION TO "SAVE
PLEASANTON'S HILLS AND HOUSING CAP" AND CONSIDER
VARIOUS OPTIONS CONCERNING THE PETITION
SUMMARY
On April 15, 2008, proponents of the Initiative to Save Pleasanton's Hill and Housing
Cap submitted a petition containing 5,013 unverified signatures. The petition was
forwarded to the County Registrar of Voters (ROV) to ascertain whether or not the
petition was signed by requisite number of voters. The ROV completed its signature
verification and has certified that the petition is sufficient; therefore, as prescribed in the
Elections Code, the Council must determine whether to adopt the initiative without
change; to submit the initiative to the voters; or to refer the initiative measure to city staff
for a report on the effect of the proposed initiative measure.
RECOMMENDATION
Receive certification results of the Save Pleasanton's Hills and Housing Cap petition
Initiative and:
a) adopt the initiative measure without change; or
b) direct staff to prepare the required documents to place the initiative measure on
the November 2008 ballot; or
c) direct staff to prepare a report on the effects of the initiative measure
FINANCIAL STATEMENT
If the Council places this initiative on the November 2008 ballot the cost will be minimal
as funds to conduct the regular general municipal election have been included in the
2008/09 approved budget.
