21 <br />THE CITY OF <br />-- `° `° -`- ~"' CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />j~L~£~S~4NTONm <br />May 20, 2008 <br />Administrative Services <br />TITLE: RECEIVE CERTIFICATION FOR THE INITIATIVE PETITION TO "SAVE <br />PLEASANTON'S HILLS AND HOUSING CAP" AND CONSIDER <br />VARIOUS OPTIONS CONCERNING THE PETITION <br />SUMMARY <br />On April 15, 2008, proponents of the Initiative to Save Pleasanton's Hill and Housing <br />Cap submitted a petition containing 5,013 unverified signatures. The petition was <br />forwarded to the County Registrar of Voters (ROV) to ascertain whether or not the <br />petition was signed by requisite number of voters. The ROV completed its signature <br />verification and has certified that the petition is sufficient; therefore, as prescribed in the <br />Elections Code, the Council must determine whether to adopt the initiative without <br />change; to submit the initiative to the voters; or to refer the initiative measure to city staff <br />for a report on the effect of the proposed initiative measure. <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Receive certification results of the Save Pleasanton's Hills and Housing Cap petition <br />Initiative and: <br />a) adopt the initiative measure without change; or <br />b) direct staff to prepare the required documents to place the initiative measure on <br />the November 2008 ballot; or <br />c) direct staff to prepare a report on the effects of the initiative measure <br />FINANCIAL STATEMENT <br />If the Council places this initiative on the November 2008 ballot the cost will be minimal <br />as funds to conduct the regular general municipal election have been included in the <br />2008/09 approved budget. <br />
